Every roof tile

Every roof tile is a series of double-sided prints composed of cropped archival photographs and text works by artist Rosa Glaessner Novak.

In 2018, inside a California ceramics studio roofed with red tile, an anecdote was passed to one artist working in clay (Rosa) from another about the history of hands and ceramics–that at one time, every roof tile was shaped to fit the hand of the worker who made it. Every roof tile is an attempt to make this anecdote concrete, search the archives for it, visualize it, and begin to write a story of clay and its labor, hands and their imprints.
